Deadly Desserts Oversized Tags By Annie

Hi everyone! It's Annie again for another Papercakes Design Team Project. This week's project theme is something sweet. Today, I used Papercakes' Deadly Desserts stamp set to create these large gift tags, that will accompany any baked treat or Valentine's gift nicely.

So let's get started....

What I used:

·         Watercolor cardstock

·         Deadly Desserts stamp set

·         Black embossing powder & heat gun

·         Distress Inks & blending tool

·         White crepe paper

·         Liquid adhesive

·         Ribbon, glitter or micro beads, tiny attacher

First, I started with the watercolor cardstock that I cut down to 3 x 5.

I cut the top two edges at an angle to create a tag shaped and punched a hole in the top middle.

Next, I stamped out my desired images on my paper using a versamark inkpad. This inkpad is very sticky and most desirable to use with embossing powders. 

I made both a cupcake and an ice cream using the Deadly Desserts stamp set as well as the sentiment "you are deadly sweet" on one of the tags.

After the images were stamped, I heat embossed them with black embossing powder and a heat gun. I do this before my ink blending to create a resist because regular ink could smear with distress inks.

Next, I began ink blending. It is usually recommended to use watercolor cardstock with distress inks since they can warp regular cardstock, but you can use what you have. If you're using regular cardstock, just apply light pressure and don't overwork the paper with too much color.

The distress ink colors I chose for this project were: spun sugar, tattered rose, picked raspberry and seedless preserves. I used the blending tool to pick up color (starting with the lightest to darkest) and applied it in a circular motion to work the colors into the paper. This creates a really pretty ombre effect.

One of the sentiments was already stamped on the card using Serena's stamp set. The other tag I used a black marker for a handwritten sentiment.

Note: Allow some time for the inks to dry before writing on the tags because they smear easily.

I then began working on the crepe paper fringe for the bottom of the tag. I cut three 3" strips for each tag and adhered them with a thin line of liquid glue right down the middle.

I used scissors to cut a fringe on each side. After the glue in the middle is sufficiently dry, you can crinkle and fluff up the edges to achieve desired fullness.

Next, I scattered some dots of liquid glue to the top of the crepe paper. I dipped the crepe paper fringe in glitter for one tag and in some micro beads for the other tag. This was to give the illusion of sprinkles.

I adhered the crepe paper fringe to the bottom of the tag with some liquid glue.

I attached various ribbons and eyelash trim with my tiny attacher to the top of the tag.
